Real Life, one of Youthlinc’s 5 core programs, is a peer-to-peer mentoring program for refugee and immigrant youth that provides homework help and teaches critical life skills such as financial literacy, communication skills, and language development.

Our Story

Real Life was born in 2010 through the visionary leadership of Ellie Seaborn, a Youthlinc employee at the time.  She had been working with refugees at Hser Ner Moo Center and suggested Youthlinc focus on the teens, who were generally overlooked by programs for resettle refugees. Through the collaboration of Ellie Seaborn and Domoina Kendell, our first partner with Promise of South Salt Lake, Real Life began working with refugees at Hser Ner Moo Center. Thanks to its incredible donor base and successful partnerships with fellow organizations, Real Life has been growing and improving ever since. Today, Real Life serves 500+ refugee and immigrant youth ages 5-18+ at fourteen locations throughout the Salt Lake Valley.
